Lisa Haugaard

Executive Director of the Latin America Working Group

Lisa Haugaard is the executive director of the Latin America Working Group (LAWG). LAWG carries out advocacy and public education with a coalition of humanitarian, human rights, faith-based, labor, policy, and grassroots organizations, encouraging U.S. policies that support human rights, justice, and conflict resolution in Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms. Haugaard has written numerous reports, articles, and memos on U.S.-Latin America policy and participated in international verification missions on human rights issues throughout the region. Prior to her work at LAWG, Ms. Haugaard was director of the Central America Historical Institute in Washington, D.C., and writer, editor, and translator for the Jesuit Instituto Histórico Centroamericano in Managua, Nicaragua. Ms. Haugaard has a BA from Swarthmore College, a Master’s degree in Latin American studies from New York University, and was a Fulbright scholar in Central America.
