Lyrysa Smith is an award-winning writer and freelance journalist and has worked for more than 25 years in print, radio, and documentary television. Her new book. A Normal Life: A Sister’s Odyssey Through Brain Injury, tells the story of her older sister’s severe brain injury from carbon monoxide poisoning and its impact on her sister, their relationship, and their family.



Recently, she was a features staff writer with the Albany Times Union newspaper, specializing in writing profiles and articles about health, science, and social and environmental issues.



She is graduate of Stanford University, and has studied at Stanford-in-Britain at Oxford University in London and at the University of Zimbabwe. She currently lives in Columbia County in upstate New York, and enjoys dancing, traveling, and plans to learn to speak Spanish well.
