Maceo Brown

Co-Founder and former chairman of Progressive Alliance PAC; New Leaders Council-CHI Curriculum Co-Chair

Maceo Brown began his career in organizing with the Bay Area Coalition on Homelessness. Following that, he directed his efforts towards the management of a small organic produce farm in Western Massachusetts where he grew up. He then spent 6 years in Brooklyn, NY as a staffer for leading progressive causes, including, the DNC, MoveON, ACLU, Amnesty International, Working Families Party, Jonathan Tasini’s progressive-Democratic U.S. Senate challenge to Hillary Clinton, and Greenpeace. During the 2008 presidential campaign, he was a top nationwide fundraiser while directing a grassroots fundraising office for the Obama campaign and DNC.

After moving to Chicago to lead field operations for what the Chicago Sun-Times dubbed the “New Wave” of Chicago progressive politics under Cook County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle, Maceo served in the same capacity for Chicago mayoral candidate, Miguel del Valle.

Maceo currently resides in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood and works as an independent political strategist and organizer focusing on developing the progressive movement at the local level. He co-founded and served as chairman of Progressive Alliance PAC, whose mission is to identify and activate the next generation of progressive leadership and build stronger, more unified communities by encouraging collaboration. In 2011, Maceo was a fellow in Chicago chapter of the progressive leadership development non-profit, New Leaders Council, and is currently a member of their Executive Board.
