Maggie Van Ostrand's award-winning humor column has appeared in newspapers and in online publications in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Her freelance articles appeared regularly in the Chicago Tribune, The Boston Globe, Newsday, the Philadelpha Inquirer, Amarillo Globe-News, Sun-Sentinel, and others, as well as national and niche magazines. She writes about characters of the Old West for texasescapes; political satire for The Huffington Post; has ghostwritten for TV sitcoms and stand-up comics; been head writer for a TV trivia game show, and written a movie column for entertainment fanzines Film School Rejects and Fandomania. Her newest column, "Woof!" appears monthly in FYI Pets magazine. Maggie's dog, Cejas, frequently writes about dogs for Coastal Canine Magazine and for The Huffington Post. Maggie has been a seat-saver at the Oscars; a roadie for Roger "King of the Road" Miller; appeared on podcast, "Woman of Significance," in Lansing, Michigan; been interviewed on various radio shows and on HuffPostLive discussing her article, "I Hate Valentine's Day." She has been featured in a documentary based on her article, "Is Superman an Illegal?" appeared in a European ARTE-PBS documentary on game shows, and on local television shows in New Orleans, New York, and Los Angeles. She has been keynote speaker discussing her columns for groups as diverse as marketing executives in New York and Catholic bishops in Gallup, New Mexico. She is a member of National Society of Newspaper Columnists, the Robert Benchley Society, the Erma Bombeck Writers Group, the Society of Women Writers and Journalists (U.K.) and has judged writing, humor, and journalism contests for Arizona Press Club Journalism Award, Erma Bombeck Writers' Group, and Society of Women Writers and Journalists.
