Marcos Sawaya Jank

President and CEO of the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association

Marcos Jank joined UNICA, The Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association, as president and CEO in June of 2007. (UNICA) is the largest organization in Brazil representing sugar, ethanol and bioelectricity producers.

He is the former president and founder of ICONE, the Institute for International Trade Negotiations, and continues to serve as director of the agribusiness department at FIESP, the São Paulo State Federation of Industries.

Jank has taught economics at the University of São Paulo’s Faculty of Economics, Administration and Accounting (FEA-USP) and has been a visiting professor at Georgetown University and the University of Columbia-Missouri in the United States.

Jank has consulted for the World Bank, OECD, FAO, UNDP, The Hewlett Foundation, the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development and the German Marshall Fund of the United States. He is a former member of the Integration, Trade and Hemispheric Affairs Division at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, DC.

Jank has more than 200 published articles and over 400 appearances as a keynote speaker or panellist in events around the world. He holds a degree in Agronomy from the Luiz de Queiroz School of Agriculture at USP and a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Policy from the Institut Agronomique Méditerranéen in Montpellier, France.
