Mariaelena Marcano currently serves as the Assistant Director for Student Success Initiatives at San Jose State University.

Mariaelena Marcano married and mother of twin boys who currently serves as the Assistant Director for Student Success Initiatives at San Jose State University. Her passion in leadership development lead her to obtain her BA degree in Broadcast Communication Arts and MA in Education – Equity and Social Justice at San Francisco State University. With over 13 years of experience working in Student Affairs, her journey began as a highly motivated student leader where she is one of five Founding Mothers of the first Multicultural Sorority (Lambda Sigma Gamma Multicultural Sorority Inc.- Lambda Chapter) at SFSU. In addition to being an active member in MECHA, La Raza, Student Government, and a Resident Assistant (RA) in housing. Upon graduation she took the leap of faith and moved to New York City to begin a next chapter at Columbia University. A third generation Mexican Puertorican, world traveler in hopes of understanding the world and its challenges for the purpose of finding strategic solutions to our equity crisis in America.
