Mariela Murdocco

Anchor, Reporter, Producer, Photographer.

Mariela Murdocco is a two-time Emmy nominee who now serves as a staff member of News 12 En Español as the weekend anchor and producer for both New Jersey and The Bronx, NY shows. She also works as a reporter under special assignment for both weekly News 12 En Español newscasts.

Mariela has a pedigree of over eleven years of service in the communications industry as a career reporter, producer and photographer. She started her career in journalism as a reporter and photographer for many local publications (among them: The NY Daily News Español and The Jersey Journal/El Nuevo Hudson). Her TV career includes the educational national network HITN-TV and NBC’s Telemundo 47 where she worked as writer and producer for Noticiero 47 and as writer, content and line producer for Acceso Total.

In 2004 she co-hosted the 2004 Olympic Games for a local Spanish-language radio station in New York City and she has served as a New York correspondent for CX30 Radio Nacional, Uruguay.

After more than a decade of work in Spanish media, Mariela has also started writing and reporting in the English language for Fox News Latino and as blogger for the Huffington Post Latino Voices.

To continue her support for the Spanish communications community, in Ausgust 2012 Mariela was voted in as the Spanish Language At-Large Officer for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). The mission of the NAHJ is to recognize and advance Hispanics in the news industry. This leadership role will allow Mariela to impart her life-long experiences in Spanish communications to increase the visibility and awareness of her industry to the masses nationally.

Parallel to her work as a journalist, she is also an independent TV and documentary producer and does professional photography.

Among her other honors, in 2007 Mariela was granted a New York Times Fellowship to the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University for economic and globalization journalism. She was the only US based Latina to receive this grant among journalists from all over the world.

Mariela’s work has covered everything from arts, music and entertainment to health, finance, education, politics, environment and the community. She is well known in the industry for her reporting and photography of hundreds of concerts and performing arts shows from the worlds’ leading artists. Having grown up in a family of artists from Uruguay, she has always had a special love for the entertainment and music industries.

Mother of two, Mariela immigrated to New York City in 1997. Because of her Latina roots and deep desire to be involved in the social and cultural issues of her community, she remains as passionate of her work as the day she began her career in journalism.
