Cooking up Pastries and Politics

MARLA ROMASH mixes politics and pastry, cooking up JUST DESSERTS to share a little of both.

Romash created The Political Cookie Company and Dreamz Catering after working in politics and journalism, including White House service as Communications Director for Vice President Al Gore. She took a break from politics in 2005-2006, to graduate with honor from the Pastry Arts Program at L’Academie de Cuisine in Maryland.

In the 2012 election, Romash served as a media consultant and senior advisor in the successful U.S. Senate campaign of consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, helping her defeat the only incumbent Senator defeated in 2012. In 2010, Romash served in the same role for then Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, helping him decisively defeat the nation’s highest spending Senate candidate. In 2008, she helped Jeanne Shaheen win election to the U.S. Senate from New Hampshire, becoming the only woman to be elected Senator and Governor. Romash worked on all three of Shaheen’s successful gubernatorial campaigns. Romash also helped elect Sens. Chris Dodd, D-CT, and Joe Lieberman, D-CT.

She created Romash Communications after serving as Communications Director for Vice President Gore. She joined Gore’s Senate staff in 1989 as his Communications Director and helped him gain Senate re-election in 1990. After travelling with Gore throughout the 1992 Presidential campaign, Romash joined him in the White House. In the 2000 Presidential election, Romash served as a senior advisor in Gore's successful Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire Primary campaigns.

Romash is a former newspaper reporter and television producer, political reporter and analyst with national network and local broadcast experience.

After graduating from L’Academie de Cuisine, Romash worked as a Pastry Cook at Occasions Caterers in Washington DC, and as Pastry Chef at Federal City Caterers in Washington, DC. Romash also is a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut and the proud mother of Jacob and Gus O’Hara. She is married to Marc Alexander, Executive Chef of Dreamz Catering.
