Mary Newman

President, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation

Mary M. Newman, MS, is president and co-founder of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) community benefit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and save lives threatened by sudden cardiac arrest. Previously, she served as executive director of the National Center for Early Defibrillation at the University of Pittsburgh, and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest research coordinator at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology, Indiana University School of Medicine. She co-founded the Citizen CPR Foundation and served on its Board of Directors for 17 years. She created the “Chain of Survival” metaphor, which has been adopted by multiple agencies worldwide.
