Matthew E. Stanley is Assistant Professor of History at Albany State University in Albany, Georgia. He teaches courses on Slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction, Revolutions and Social Violence, and the Long Civil Rights Movement. He is the author of The Loyal West: Civil War and Reunion in Middle America, to be published in the fall of 2016 by the University of Illinois Press. Stanley’s current research focuses on the convergence of collective memory and radical class politics among Civil War veterans.
