Biography



Michael Moore was appointed Secretary of State for Scotland in May 2010. He is the Liberal Democrat MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk.



Education



Michael was educated at Jedburgh Grammar School and Edinburgh University, where he studied politics and modern history.



Political career



He previously served as Shadow Secretary for Scotland and Northern Ireland and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development.



Michael was elected as an MP in 1997 and has held a number of posts since, including:




Spokesperson for Scotland 1997 to 1999 and 2001
Spokesperson for Transport 1999 to 2001
Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs 2001 to 2005
Shadow Secretary of State for Defence 2005 to 2006
Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs 2006 to 2007
Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Scotland 2008
Shadow Secretary of State for International Development 2007 to 2010


Career outside politics



After a year as a researcher for Archy Kirkwood MP, he joined Coopers & Lybrand where he qualified as a Scottish chartered accountant and became a manager in the corporate finance practice.



Personal life



Michael is married with a daughter. His interests include supporting local rugby teams, hill walking and films.
