Michael Marissen is the Daniel Underhill Professor of Music at Swarthmore College. His publications include <em>The Social and Religious Designs of J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos</em> (Princeton), <em>Lutheranism, anti-Judaism, and Bach's St. John Passion</em> (Oxford), and <em>Tainted Glory in Handel's Messiah</em> (Yale), as well as articles in the <em>Harvard Theological Review</em> and the <em>New York Times</em>. As a Bach specialist, he has also worked in America and Europe with many organizations promoting cultural and interreligious understanding among Jews and Christians.
