Michael Marissen is the Daniel Underhill Professor of Music at Swarthmore College. His publications include The Social and Religious Designs of J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos (Princeton), Lutheranism, anti-Judaism, and Bach's St. John Passion (Oxford), and Tainted Glory in Handel's Messiah (Yale), as well as articles in the Harvard Theological Review and the New York Times. As a Bach specialist, he has also worked in America and Europe with many organizations promoting cultural and interreligious understanding among Jews and Christians.
