Mike Harrelson

Contributor

Based in Bozeman, Montana, Harrelson is an outdoor renaissance man - equally stoked on the side of a mountain or in the heaving ocean. He spent his early years in Hawaii where he developed a lifelong addiction to surfing. In his teens he turned his attention to rock climbing & whitewater kayaking and later fell in love with backcountry skiing & snowboarding. He worked as a river guide in the east throughout college before moving to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he managed a climbing shop in the Tetons. There he met Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia’s founder/owner, and went on to work nearly 15-years on their creative & marketing team. During those years he began moonlighting as a freelance journalist, writing for outlets like: Outside, Backpacker, Powder, Islands, Transworld Snowboarding and others. Mike recently returned from a surfing-intensive "pretirement" (adult gap year) in Nicaragua and Panama. Find Mike on Twitter @Feralson as well as on Instagram @Feralson.
