Though I have been involved in the past with interfaith dialogue and outreach work, my fondest memory has been of my wife and I buying a vacant building that was taken over by drug users in the Navy Yard Southeast area of Washington, D.C., and converting it into a place of worship where we reached out to the local community. However, a few years later the D.C government, with the power of imminent domain forced us to sell the property to a developer, which was later demolished to make way for a new development.
After relocating to Orlando, Fla., with the help of some friends, we recently established an organization food bank to serve the needy and homeless.
