Mondo Guerra

Fashion designer and HIV awareness advocate

After an emotional disclosure of his HIV-positive status during Season 8 of the hit reality TV show Project Runway, Mondo Guerra won the hearts of the judges, his fellow contestants and the viewers. This spring marked his triumphant return to TV on Project Runway All Stars, which he won.

Mondo has been HIV-positive for over 10 years, and since his courageous disclosure he has become an advocate for HIV awareness. He is currently collaborating with Merck on "I Design," a national education campaign to help empower people with HIV to play an active role in designing their HIV treatment plans together with their doctors. With "I Design" Mondo will share his experience with HIV through a series of local events where he will discuss the value of having an open dialogue with your doctor and discussing important topics such as achieving an undetectable viral load and increasing CD4 cell counts, as well as any additional health concerns.

Professionally, Mondo is designing a line for a major department store and participating in regional fashion weeks across the U.S. He is also completing a guest editorship at a leading women’s magazine. Mondo continues to serve as a role model in the HIV community by speaking openly about his status and encouraging others to do the same.
