Nathan M. Schaefer

Executive Director, Empire State Pride Agenda

Nathan Schaefer is the Executive Director of the Empire State Pride Agenda and the Empire State Pride Agenda Foundation. In this capacity he oversees a 19-person staff across the state and is responsible for creating a solid, complete entity out of the various facets of both organizations.

Before his tenure at the Pride Agenda, he served as the Director of Public Policy for GMHC, where he successfully advocated for the New York State HIV Testing Law and reforms of federal regulations that prohibit gay and bisexual men from donating blood. Prior to that, he worked as a government relations associate at AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth & Families in Washington, D.C., and as the Director of Education and Public Policy at the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland, Ohio.

Nathan graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and earned his master's of social work at the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He serves as an adjunct faculty member at Columbia University’s School of Social Work.
