Barry Bortnick

Barry Bortnick has spent nearly 30 years as a reporter, investigative journalist, national news field producer, and documentary filmmaker. He is the author of two true crime books and the producer of two nationally acclaimed documentaries. His most recent film, Death by Alcohol: The Sam Spady Story, traces the short life and tragic death of Samantha Spady -- an All-American girl who accidentally drank herself to death in 2004. Bortnick was also the associate producer on Benched: The Corporate Takeover of the Judiciary. This investigative documentary exposed how corporate cash has corrupted judicial elections across the nation. Bortnick serves as a regular freelance writer for the New York Post. He served as the famed tabloid’s chief correspondent on the Kobe Bryant Rape case in Colorado. Bortnick has also worked as a field producer for the news show A Current Affair, and ABC’s Good Morning America. Bortnickhas spent decades covering scandals and crime for a variety of newspapers in California and Colorado. He is a former private investigator and the author of Deadly Urges, and Polly Klaas: The Murder of America’s Child. Deadly Urges follows the depraved acts of California Death Row inmate Phillip Jablonski, who went on a killing spree in 1991. Polly Klaas: The Murder of America’s Child centers on one of the most horrific crimes in California history: the kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Polly Klaas. Bortnick is currently working on various freelance film projects. He lives in Boulder.
