Assistant Director-General for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, WHO

Dr. Oleg Chestnov was appointed Assistant Director-General for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health in February 2012. Prior to that, Dr Chestnov was the Deputy-Director for International Relations at the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, a post he occupied from 2005. Dr Chestnov is guiding the Organization’s Global action plan for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases 2013-2020, which is a road map for countries and other stakeholders to attain a range of targets, including a 25% relative reduction in premature death from cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes or chronic respiratory diseases by 2025.
