I'm founder of a dozen organizations dedicated to sustainability, including Ithaca HOURS local currency, Philadelphia Orchard Project, Citizen Planners of Los Angeles. My aim has been to translate sustainability ideas into practical programs that serve community, nature, and social justice. I'm author of six books on grassroots power, including Hometown Money, Health Democracy, Los Angeles: a History of the Future, Deep Green Jobs, How to Take Power. For several years I taught urban studies at Temple University, creating the courses Metropolitan Ecology, and Green Jobs.
