Pedro A. Freyre

Pedro A. Freyre is a partner and Chair of the International Practice in the law firm of Akerman LLP where his practice focuses on international corporate transactions and Cuba related matters including practice before the Office of Foreign Assets Control and advising businesses on strategic issues related to Cuba.He received his B.A. in Latin American Studies (Magna Cum Laude 1971) and his J.D. (1974) from the University of Miami.

He is a member of The Florida Bar, the State Bar of Michigan (inactive) and the Cuban-American Bar Association (CABA) and that organization's CABA on Cuba Committee
Mr. Freyre is past Chairman of FACE (Facts About Cuban Exiles); a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to providing information on the Cuban community in the U.S. He was a member of the Steering Committee of the "Memory, Truth and Justice" project sponsored by Florida International University and the Ford Foundation, which focused on the challenges of addressing human rights violations in Cuba in a transition to democracy. Mr. Freyre is currently a Lecturer at Law at Columbia University School of Law where he teaches a seminar on Cuba. He is an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University's School of Law where he currently teaches Introduction to U.S. Law to foreign LLM Candidates He has written several Law Review Articles on the impact of U.S. Embargo regulations and Cuban national reconciliation. He has also written articles in the Miami Herald, and El Nuevo Herald. He has appeared in Nightline, The Today Show, Good Morning America, the Paula Zahn Show, This Week in South Florida, CNN Latino and various other TV shows on the subject of Cuba. He is a past Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board and the recipient of the Ghandi-King-Ikeda Award for Community Relations.
