Executive Director, Empower Tanzania Inc.
Phil Latessa was born and raised in Massachusetts. He earned his BA (Economics) and MA (Economic Development) at Northeastern University in Boston. After dropping out of a Ph.D. program, he moved to Iowa where he worked as an executive with the Iowa Hospital Association for 25 years. He then became Executive Director of Iowa Sister States, which manages the State of Iowa's international relationships in eight foreign countries. Now retired, he volunteers as Executive Director of Empower Tanzania Inc. He has published a book about his 20 years of international experiences, "Surviving Vodka Toasts and Rampaging Elephants: A Journey to Life's Purpose.". He lives in Urbandale, Iowa with his wife Judy.
