Polly Irungu is a multimedia journalist and social media strategist based in Washington, D.C. who plans to graduate from the University of Oregon SOJC with a degree in journalism this winter. She is currently working as a social media desk intern for National Public Radio. In addition to her role at NPR, she is a contributor for YesJulz! Agency and Thrive Global, and a freelance production assistant for the Pac-12 Networks and FOX Sports. Before that, she worked as a social media producer and digital content creator for the SOJC’s Communications team, and a campus editor-at-large at The Huffington Post. A National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) fellow in 2015 and 2016, she participated in the NABJ and National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) student newsroom to provide coverage of their historic joint convention for NABJ Monitor and Latino Reporter. Now she is serving on the the 2016-17 NABJ student representative board for Region IV and is a recipient of the 2016 NABJ Visual Task Force Scholarship. In September, she participated in the Online News Association (ONA) student newsroom to provide coverage of ONA16 and OJA16 held in Denver. Previously, she has worked for TrackTown USA, Def Jam Records, Dell, and Adobe to name a few. She made the 2013 and 2014 Daily Emerald 25 Ducks Who Will Change the World list, and in May 2015, she was named the Women4Africa International Young Achiever of the Year.
