Rabbi David Starr

Jewish educator

David Starr received rabbinic ordination from JTS, and holds a PhD in History and Jewish studies from Columbia University. He served Temple Israel of Great Neck as an associate rabbi, and he also worked as rabbinic advisor at Harvard Radcliffe Hillel. At Hebrew College he created the flagship Me'ah program, as well as serving as Vice
President. A holder of the Charles Bronfman Visiting Chair in Jewish communal innovation at Brandeis, he now teaches at the Gann Academy/New Jewish High School.

This year Rabbi Dr. Starr created Tzion, an innovative approach to teaching the history, texts, and ideas of Zionism and Israel. He is finishing two books: a biography of Solomon Schechter and a study of the Me'ah program.
