Rachel Adelson

Author, 'Staying Power: Age-Proof Your Home for Comfort, Safety and Style'

Rachel Adelson turned a precocious interest in grab bars and safety treads into her first book, 'Staying Power: Age-Proof Your Home for Comfort, Safety and Style.' An award-winning health and science writer, she wrote the book to respond to older adults’ growing need for suitable housing…and their worried kids’ equally growing need to help.

In her pre-book life, she covered everything from brain health, neurological disorders and behavioral science to human-computer interaction as the 20-year owner of Live Wire Communications. Before that, this prototypical Boomer was a valued member of IBM’s Corporate Communications staff.

Rachel has a B.A. in Psychology, an M.A. in Journalism and graduate certificates (earned as a grown-up) in Aging and in Public Health. Fed up with sitting at the computer, she certified at age 53 to teach fitness, the best anti-aging tool around, to older adults.

A New York City native who also called Maryland and North Carolina home, she lives with her family outside Toronto. And puts safety treads on the stairs.
