Rachel Bohstedt Estes grew up in Knoxville, Tenn., and survived a shooting at her home church there in 2008 that killed two people and injured seven. She is director of outreach at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ala., where she lives with her husband and three daughters.
