Rachel Cortese, MS Ed, MS CCC-SLP, a licensed speech-language therapist at the Child Mind Institute (childmind.org), specializes in the evaluation and treatment of young children and adolescents with communication disorders including speech production problems, language difficulties and associated conditions, like learning disorders. She is certified by the American Speech & Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a New York state certified teacher of speech and language disabilities. She has over nine years of combined classroom, clinical and alternative therapeutic experience in the evaluation and treatment of young children with late onset of language development, specific language impairment (SLI), stuttering and communication impairments associated with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and Down syndrome.

She also has clinical experience working with children with articulation and phonology disorders and hearing loss. Ms. Cortese is a strong advocate for family-centered care and strives to help children gain increased access to required care and to develop effective communication skills. She holds a master's of science in communicative disorders from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was a training fellow in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program at the Waisman Research Center for Developmental Disabilities, a Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. She has additional training in applied behavior analysis (ABA), and PROMPT. She is certified to lead It Takes Two to Talk—The Hanen Program® for parents of children ages 5 and under with language delays.
