Native Austinite and Democratic activist Rachel Farris writes <a href="http://www.MeanRachel.com" target="_hplink">MeanRachel.com</a>, a popular progressive blog.<br />
Her work has been anthologized in several books, including <em>Women Write the War</em>, and she covered the 2008 Democratic National Convention for <em>The Texas Observer</em>. Farris has served as the National Communications Director of the Young Democrats of America Women's Caucus and on the board of the Texas Democratic Women. She currently serves on the Independent Citizen's Redistricting Commission, a historic independent commission responsible for creating 10 new city council districts for the City of Austin by 2014.<br />
A self-described "political hobbyist," she prides herself in not working for or receiving any money from politicians. Her day job consists of working at an Austin-based dot-com.
