Dr. Rachel Herz is on the faculty at Brown University and is a professional consultant. She has been working on the psychology of smell since 1990 and is considered one of the world’s leading experts. Her book, The Scent of Desire: Discovering Our Enigmatic Sense of Smell (Harper Collins, 2007), vividly and entertainingly presents smell psychology to a general audience and was selected as a finalist for the “2009 AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books.” In the past few years, her interests have turned to the emotion of disgust. Her latest book, That’s Disgusting: Unraveling the Mysteries of Repulsion (Norton, 2012), reveals everything you ever wanted to know (or didn’t) about the amazing and uniquely human emotion of disgust and how it influences our daily lives, from our morals and politics to our sexual predilections and diet.
