Randy Moody

Randy Moody retired in 2010 as the chief federal lobbyist for the National Education Association, the 3.2 million member teachers’ union, in Washington, D.C. A Nebraska native, he is a graduate of Creighton University in Omaha and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law (with distinction). He lives in Lincoln.

After graduating from Creighton in 1965, he served his country for four years as an Army officer, including a year in Vietnam where he was news director for American Forces radio and television. After being released from active duty as a Captain, he enrolled in the graduate journalism program at the University of Minnesota in 1969 before moving to Washington, D.C., in 1971 to become a reporter for the Omaha World-Herald. While in the nation’s capital he was a top aide to Representatives John Y. McCollister and Virginia Smith, Republican members of the House of Representatives and Senator Roman L. Hruska, all of Nebraska.

Returning to Nebraska in 1979, he served as administrative assistant to Republican Governor Charles Thone before opening his own lobbying and political consulting firm in Lincoln, the state capital. He returned to Washington, D.C., in 1999 to work for the NEA.

Active in politics, he has been a Republican county chairman, delegate to the 1984 Republican National Convention, member of the State Party executive committee, and candidate for the Republican nomination for Nebraska Lt. Governor in 1986. He managed the Media Operations Center at the 1976, 1980 and 1984 Republican National Conventions.

Active in Planned Parenthood, he was from 1995-2002 a member of the National Board of Directors of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and currently is the volunteer National Co-Chair of Republicans for Planned Parenthood. He has served on the executive committee of the PPFA National Alumni Association. From 1994-2000 he was on the board of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, served as treasurer from 1997-2000 and was a founding member its Political Action Committee.

While in Nebraska he served on the Planned Parenthood of Lincoln (now Planned Parenthood of the Heartland) affiliate board from 1987-1999 and as board president in 1991-1993. He currently is a member of the board of Planned Parenthood Voters of Nebraska and chair of its Political Action Committee.

In 2003, the National Women’s Political Caucus gave him their “Good Guy” award for “commitment to the issues of progressive women.”
