Rebecca Abara

Technologist, Mental Health Advocate, and Vlogger who desires to one day be the type of woman Nina Simone would love.

Rebecca graduated from Northwestern University in 2014 with honors and awards, including a Campus Life Award recognizing her role in a yearlong movement to advocate for better mental health support on campus. In addition to her academic achievements and activism, Rebecca served her peers in a number of leadership roles, including Co-Chair of the 2014 Class Gift Executive Board, President of the African Students Association, and Vice President of the Nu Sigma chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. As a first-generation American and single-parent child, Rebecca grew up with experiences that became the foundation for her passion to advocate for the marginalized. Rebecca has protested with #BlackLivesMatter in New York City and Philadelphia, and served as an organizer with Operation Help or Hush during Freedom Summer. She brings her knowledge of activism into her work as a Business Analyst at ThoughtWorks, and furthers the conversation on her social media. You can reach Rebecca by emailing her at rona [dot] abara [at] gmail [dot] com.
