Rebecca Ortiz

Assistant Professor in the Newhouse School at Syracuse University

Rebecca Ortiz is an assistant professor of advertising in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Her expertise is in sexual health promotion, most recently focused on sexual consent education and sexual violence prevention. She received her Ph.D. in Mass Communication and a graduate certificate in interdisciplinary health communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel HilI. She has consulted on or managed a number of health communication and social marketing projects for such public health organizations as the North Carolina Division of Public Health and the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. Her work has appeared in a variety of academic journals, such as Journal of Children and Media, Health Promotion Practice, Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Sexualization, Media, & Society, among others.
