Rebecca R. Scott

Rebecca R. Scott is an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Missouri, where she teaches courses in the sociology of gender, cultural studies, environmental justice and social theory. Her research has focused on gender, race and class and the cultural politics of mountaintop removal coal mining in West Virginia. Her work has appeared in the journal Feminist Studies, The Journal of Appalachian Studies, and Sociology Compass. She is author of Removing Mountains: Extracting Nature and Identity in the Appalachian Coalfields (University of Minnesota Press, 2010). She is currently working on a project concerning fossil fuels and American national identity.
