Emma Akpan is a ordained elder in the Western North Carolina Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She serves on the board of the Resource Center for Women and Ministry in the South, an organization to support women ministers. She is also a member of Echoing Ida, a project of Forward Together, an organization designed to uplift the voices of black women in the media.
