Rachel Waters

Policy Researcher, Community Activist and Writer

Rachel studies governance and rights as a graduate student at The New School's Milano School of International Affairs and is currently working as a practicum consultant for Raising Indigenous Voices. She has been a contributor to the United Nations' virtual dialogue on Earth Jurisprudence and to a UN General Assembly report regarding environmental philosophy and ethics. Recently, Rachel worked with the UN Development Programme to analyze migration and related development policies and rank the coherence of these policies with national commitments and international human rights standards. For the past 13 years, Rachel has written on indigenous issues, women's rights and human rights as a journalist for Coilhouse, Native Peoples Magazine, Feet in Two Worlds, The Metro Spirit and other publications. She also volunteers as a Peacemaker with the Red Hook Community Justice Center. In 2007, Rachel graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in communication from Augusta State University and has received awards for journalistic excellence from the Georgia Press Association regarding her work on sexual orientation discrimination and homelessness. Rachel was born and raised in rural Georgia, she has been a resident of Brooklyn, NY, since 2012.
