Richard Moore

Founder and Director of International NGO Children in Crossfire

Founder and Director of International NGO Children in Crossfire, Richard Moore was blinded as a 10 year old boy in 1972 whilst on his way home from school during the conflict in Northern Ireland.

The Derry man has never harboured any feelings of hatred or anger and has always forgiven the soldier. In 2006, almost 34 years after the incident, Richard met Charles for the first time and they have remained good friends ever since.

After losing his sight, Richard returned to his old school, went on to university, graduated in 1983, is married with 2 daughters, was a successful businessman before eventually launching Children in Crossfire in 1996.
Richard said, “I have learnt to see life in a different way. I would not have survived being shot and blinded if it were not for the support that I received from my family, friends and local community. Despite losing my sight, I still had choices and opportunities available to me even as a blind person”.
