Robin M. Hogarth is Emeritus Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain. Previously he was an ICREA Research fellow at UPF (2002-2012) and formerly the Wallace W. Booth Professor of Behavioral Science at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business where he served as Deputy Dean from 1993 to 1998. While in that post, Hogarth was instrumental in establishing the University of Chicago’s executive MBA program in Europe as well as being responsible for the prestigious campus MBA program in Chicago. Hogarth was a member of the Chicago faculty from 1979 to 2001 prior to which he held appointments at INSEAD in France and the London Business School. He earned his MBA from INSEAD (1968) and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (1972). His research has focused mainly on the psychology of judgment and decision making and he has published several books (including Judgement and Choice and Educating Intuition) and many articles in leading professional journals (e.g., Psychological Bulletin, Psychological Review, Management Science, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty). He is a past President of both the Society for Judgment and Decision Making and the European Association for Decision Making and, in fact, is the only person to have held both of these positions. He was awarded the degree of “doctor honoris causa” by the University of Lausanne (2007). Hogarth has consulted with numerous organizations in Europe and the United States on issues of decision making and management education. His most recent book, Dance with Chance, co-authored with Spyros Makridakis and Anil Gaba, was published in 2009.
