President and Founder of a communications firm dedicated to social change
Rochelle Lefkowitz is the founder and president of Pro-Media Communications, a bi-coastal communications firm dedicated to social change based in New York and the San Francisco Bay Area.
As a reporter covering human services and community development at the Massachusetts State House, it troubled her that newsworthy economic and social justice work rarely made headlines. Without media specialists to uncover and shape their issues, these creative and effective groups and individuals and their important contributions were virtually invisible. Their mission, sparking social change, was stalled.
In 1986, Rochelle formed Pro-Media: a different kind of communications firm. She began training organizations and thought leaders to work with journalists. Today, nationally renowned, with her finger on the pulse of progressive and nonprofit America and with a remarkable client roster and extensive and impressive results, her vision and focus remain steadfast. Rochelle, leading Pro-Media’s team, has helped organizations of all sizes and public intellectuals celebrate their proudest moments, manage transitions and turn crises into growth opportunities.
Throughout her 25 year-plus media advocacy career, Rochelle has worked with hundreds of organizations, authors, visionaries, and policymakers committed to social change. She is in frequent contact with foundations that support communications campaigns, progressive thought leaders and activists, and with journalists who cover a range of issues.
Rochelle has a bachelor of arts degree from Cornell University in Latin American Studies and a MA degree in Education from Boston University. She is the co-editor of For Crying Out Loud: Women and Poverty in the United States (Co-edited with Ann Withorn, Pilgrim, 1986).
