Roya Rastegar heads the film curation of the Los Angeles Film Festival. She left her investment banking career to pursue a doctorate at the History of Consciousness, with adviser Angela Y. Davis. She taught race, aesthetics, and curatorial practice in the Art History department at Bryn Mawr College. Her writing on independent film and popular culture can be found on The Nation, IndieWire, The Huffington Post, and in academic journals. Over the past decade, she has served on the curatorial teams of various film festivals, including Tribeca and Sundance. The Whitney Museum of American Art ISP awarded her a curatorial fellowship, and she is also a Creative Capital grantee.
