Sam Panayotovich is a sportswriter and radio personality best known for his work with WCRX Chicago 88.1 FM and Most Valuable Network [LLC].

In November 2009, Sam began play-by-play duties on WCRX announcing UIC Flames men’s basketball. Working under the tutelage of Steve Olken, Sam was on the call for five games, provided color commentary and sideline reports for two others, and also hosted pre and post game shows. In February 2010, he began co-hosting “The Big Show” on Tuesday evenings. Starting in May 2010, Sam will cover sports for “The Fest,” WCRX’s top morning show.

Immediately after his basketball career came to an abrupt end in high school, Panayotovich turned directly to sports media, writing online and producing radio broadcasts for MVN. He was partial to college basketball, a game he dreamed of playing as a youth, and rode his knowledge of the game to the head college roundball writer on the network. Sam has received national recognition for NBA Draft coverage, most notably in 2007 and 2008 for beating out ESPN’s Chad Ford. Sam’s pieces have been featured on Fox Sports, AOL Fanhouse and Yahoo! Sports, and he’s made guest radio appearances on Chicago’s ESPN 1000, San Antonio’s Ticket 760 and Champaign’s WPGU 107.1.

Born and raised in the Windy City, Sam has long passioned over Chicago sports teams, most notably the (Jordan era) Bulls, White Sox, Blackhawks and Bears. Still, anytime college basketball is on the tube, regardless of the teams or conference, odds are you’ll find him zoned in, absorbing every little detail. He strongly believes that March is the best sports month of the year given the “Madness” of college hoops, the home stretch in the NBA and NHL, and the hype surrounding MLB’s Spring Training.
