Sara Sakowitz

Award-winning teenage scientist, co-founder of the science education startup Blue Moon Box, and student at Columbia University.

Sara is a first-year student at Columbia University and the co-founder of a science education startup, Blue Moon Box. Sara entered her first cancer research laboratory at age 16 and became a national Finalist in the 2014 Intel Science Talent Search and the First Prize Grand Award winner of the 2014 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Named one of the top 24 high school graduates of 2014 by Business Insider, Sara won the national Made with Code prize from Google and Ellen Degeneres and was featured in an international Facebook campaign. An enthusiastic advocate for girls in science and entrepreneurship, Sara is the author of the Washington Post editorial, “I’m an Engineer, not a Cheerleader.”
