Psychotherapist, mediator, and author with over 30 years’ experience working with youth and deep roots in the Santa Barbara area.

National media appearances include GOOD MORNING AMERICA, HUFFINGTON POST,,NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO, ABC NEWS, FOX NEWS, SIRRIUS RADIO, AIR AMERICA, USA TODAY, DISNEY.COM, LIFESCRIPT.COM, and others. Jennifer Freed was also the host of the popular radio program FREED UP! on Voice America. Jennifer is the co-founder/director of the highly successful teen program called AHA!, which serves more than 5000 families annually in the state of California. AHA! creates positive attitudes, social harmony and bridges the achievement gap. Dr. Freed has authored the educational book series “BECOME YOUR BEST SELF” which includes workbooks on Relationship Wisdom, Character, Compassion and Creative Expression as part of her efforts to bring outstanding social and emotional learning curriculum to teens and their families. She also created a trainer’s series entitled THE AHA! METHOD in 2014 for educators and facilitators of teens. She is also a national trainer and keynote speaker for Social and Emotional Learning best practices. Also in 2014 Dr. Freed and Josh Wand invented a web application PEACEQ which tracks pro social behaviors of teens in their schools and has already broken records for student participation in creating peaceful behaviors on campus. D In addition to the workbook series, and web application, Dr. Freed is a frequent author of articles relating to youth and families, and has also published numerous books.(see author) Dr. Freed is the recipient of the 2009 Santa Barbara’s Local Heroes Award and THE HOPE AWARD from Sierra Tucson Treatment Center, in recognition of her innovative curriculum for high school teenagers, which led to a 70% reduction in school suspensions. AHA! was awarded YOUTH PROGRAM OF THE YEAR by the City of Santa Barbara in 2010 and AHA! is also the recipient of the 2010 Southern California Teen Coalition Teen Award in the category of Be the Change Award . In 2014 Dr. Freed and AHA! were given a major grant award from the Susan Crown Foundation for being one of the top social and emotional learning programs in the country. Jennifer Freed and Rendy Freedman won the WOMEN OF INSPIRATION award in 2015 from Girls Inc. Dr. Freed is a recognized expert and speaker on the following issues: PQ(PeaceQ), parenting teens, bullying, teen sexuality, restorative approaches, mother/daughter relationships, social and emotional learning, and strategies for creating peaceful campuses nationally.
