PwC Principal - Chief Purpose Officer, Responsible Business

Shannon Schuyler is a Principal with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) and the firm's chief purpose officer and responsible business leader. She also serves as the president of the PwC Charitable Foundation. Widely recognized in her field as a dynamic change agent, Shannon has been honored by Foreign Policy as a Global Thinker, and was named one of Fast Company's Most Creative Leaders in Business. As PwC's first chief purpose officer, Shannon has worked to infuse PwC's Purpose — to build trust in society and solve important problems — into its core business strategy so that it drives how the firm engages clients and other external stakeholders for greater societal impact. Shannon also oversees efforts to support the firm's more than 50,000 U.S. employees in deriving greater sense of purpose from the work they do every day. In her role as responsible business leader, Shannon delivers on PwC's purpose by leading a commitment to help communities through Access Your Potential, a $320 million commitment to teach underserved students the tech and money skills they need to change the trajectory of their lives. By 2021, PwC will reach 10 million students with access to curriculum and will train 100,000 teachers and guidance counselors and mentor 10,000 students. Shannon talks frequently about the growing role of business in addressing societal issues, and works alongside U.S. Chairman Tim Ryan to lead CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion, the largest-ever CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. In this role, she drives the strategy for engaging more than 450 companies in 85 industries and over 40 academic institutions. She speaks often of how diversity and inclusion are two critical factors in helping companies achieve their purpose. This groundbreaking corporate coalition has reached 12 million people and growing. A sought after speaker and advisor on organizational and personal purpose, Shannon has spoken at the UN General Assembly, participated in G20 meetings, and keynoted at the Social Innovation Summit. She was a guiding force in the launch of the HuffPost's Working: Purpose + Profit, and she is now the managing editor. This platform focuses on the ways purpose can fundamentally change companies, driving them to new levels of revenue, engagement with clients and retention of top talent. She also led the development of Putting Purpose to Work, a study of purpose in the workplace, and serves as an adjunct lecturer on social impact at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Shannon's personal purpose includes a longstanding commitment to civic and community engagement. She is a board member of numerous charitable organizations, including The HistoryMakers Foundation; the National Environmental Education Foundation; Leadership Greater Chicago; Lincoln Park Zoo Board; Harris Theater; and JA Worldwide. Shannon is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She lives in Chicago with her husband and son.
