Wife, mother and advocate for LGBTQ youth
Shawnee McPhail and her wife Arielle resided in Colorado before moving to North Carolina in July 2011, to be near Shawnee's family. They got married Sept. 20, 2012, in Washington, D.C. They have one 7-year-old son and a baby on the way. Their dream job is to open a safe house for LGBTQ youth, young adults and allies in New Bern, N.C., where all can have love, support, acceptance, safety and education, regardless of their life circumstances.
