Brand Communications and Values Director, The Body Shop

Shelley Simmons is Brand Communications and Values Director for The Body Shop in the US, Canada and Mexico, and has been with the specialist boutique beauty brand since 2000. Having spent more than six years with The Body Shop International in London as its Head of PR, Shelley relocated to New York City in 2007 to set up a communications team for The Body Shop, Americas region.

Shelley joined The Body Shop having grown up with the brand in the UK and was drawn not just to its products, but to the social mission of the company.

Shelley traveled extensively with the late founder of The Body Shop, Dame Anita Roddick. During these travels she formulated press and public relations for the company and oversaw the publicity launch of The Body Shop in India. Passionate about fair trade, Shelley has led press trips to Zambia, Namibia, Guatemala, Brazil and Nicaragua to share insights into the company’s unique Community Trade program.

Shelley’s involvement with The Body Shop values campaigns are where her strongest passions lie. This has included spearheading a new campaign tackling the trafficking issue of children for sexual purposes with ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) and Somaly Mam Foundation. She also oversees The Body Shop Foundation in the Americas, which donates to grassroots organizations working on issues of environmental protection, animal welfare, self-esteem and human rights.

Prior to coming to work for The Body Shop, Shelley spent three years as Head of PR for an animal welfare organization in London; and five years in the British film and television industry working as a publicist, managing press location trips and festival film launches in Cannes, Berlin, Edinburgh and Toronto.

Simmons, who loves living in New York City, has a degree in Law from the University of Westminster, London, UK.
