Dr. Shelly Batra

President and Co-Founder of Operation ASHA, Penguin Author, Schwab Social Entrepreneur

Dr. Shelly Batra is the President & Co-founder of Operation ASHA. She was selected as Social Entrepreneur of the year 2014 by the Schwab Foundation. She is a highly renowned Senior Gynecologist and Advanced Laparoscopy Surgeon, in New Delhi, India. Her dedication to ‘reaching the unreached’ started in 1991, when she went into the heart of the slums in Delhi, providing pro-bono life-saving treatments and operations. She has contributed heavily through various television stations and newspapers, and is a best-selling Penguin author. She has taught on Global Health Issues at the University of Chicago, and has lectured at Ivy League and other universities. She has delivered the Hippocrates Society Women in Medicine lecture at Wellesley College. In 2010, Dr. Shelly was declared an Ashoka Changemaker in view of her outstanding innovations in TB treatment. In 2014, the World Bank invited her to do a TEDx talk. This year, she was invited by the World Economic Forum to attend their Annual Summit at Davos and their regional meeting at Tianjin..Dr. Batra has been the recipient of multiple awards, accolades and recognitions, including the Exemplary Contribution Award for selfless work for the underserved, given by the Indian Medical Association. She holds an M.D. from King George’s Medical College, India.
