Sofia Gomez-Doyle

Youth Activist

Dancer. Activist. Tango enthusiast. Adventurer. Originally from the South Side of Chicago, Sofia always had a desire to explore the world around her. As a Chicago Public School student, she participated in the University of Chicago Collegiate Scholars Program, the Young Scientists Training Program and National History Day competitions.

In 2010, she was awarded the Davis Scholarship to attend the Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa (UWCSA) in Swaziland. At UWCSA, she served as the Vice-President of the Leadership Development Forum, participated in entrepreneurship, film and human rights community service projects and workshops and founded 30 Seconds of Change, a student-led group to amplify the voices of youth in the local area.

Sofia continued to explore her dedication to youth empowerment and technology during an internship in Cambodia at the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center.

This fall, Sofia will begin her studies at New York University Abu Dhabi. Sofia aspires to be a leader in the field of international gender equity and study social entrepreneurship and design thinking.

Most recently, she attended the UN Youth Assembly in July 2013 and she will continue to champion equal education, especially for young girls.
