Sofiya Ballin

Reporter, Creator #BlackHistoryUntold

Sofiya Ballin wrote her first work in Kindergarten. It was a poem about “Cats” that her teacher mounted in the hallway for everyone to see. Since then she’s had tight grip on paper and pen regardless of her now-slight distaste for felines. She began writing for her school newspaper and found that she liked having the permission to be nosy. Sofiya is the daughter of two opinionated Jamaican parents, and the oldest sister to three girls. The rich culture and strong sibling ties are her inspiration and motivation. She is currently a features reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
