Sonia Cardenas is Professor of Political Science and Dean of Academic Affairs at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. A political scientist, human rights scholar, and academic administrator, she is the author of dozens of publications, including Chains of Justice: The Global Rise of State Institutions for Human Rights, Human Rights in Latin America: A Politics of Terror and Hope, and Conflict and Compliance: State Responses to International Human Rights Pressure, all from the University of Pennsylvania Press. Her opinion writings have appeared in The New York Times, Dissent, openDemocracy, and in her own blog Erga Omnes, among other places. From 2007-13, she directed the Human Rights Program at Trinity College—the first program of its kind at a liberal arts college in the country.
