Sophia Slater is part Tibetan and was born in Tokyo to American parents. She is a junior at Vassar College, where she is involved in the Asian Students Alliance and majors in Political Science. She is the founder of CharmWorks, an initiative to help a Japanese town devastated by the earthquake and tsunami of 3/11, and her work with NGOs includes internships with the Dharamsala-based Tibetan Women's Association, Refugees International Japan, Peace Boat Japan, and the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees. Sophia loves travel, whether it’s visiting a new country or spending time with family in the States. Food is another area where she loves to explore, and her favorite cuisine by far is Japanese.
