Stephen Beal was appointed president of California College of the Arts (CCA) in May 2008, having served as the college’s provost for 10 years. As the college’s chief executive officer Beal is responsible for management of an $88 million annual operating budget alongside the leadership of a thirty-five-member board of trustees. Beal has led the college through a remarkable period of growth and transformation. His achievements include significant expansion of the college's programs and facilities, implementation of key academic initiatives, development of important industry and community partnerships, assembly of a comprehensive and experienced management team, and major fundraising efforts. Beal has more than four decades of experience in art and design education leadership. In addition to his academic career, Beal is a practicing artist whose work has been exhibited nationally. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
